Being on the water all day: Aden's Perspective
(Asked and transcribed by Greg verbatim)
So what’s it like being out on the water all day?
Sometimes it can be rough. Sometimes I cannot feel well. Sometimes it’s really nice. Sometimes we can see dolphins. We can see the shore and the markers. And sometimes the waves can be gnarly.
What do you mean by rough?
Sometimes it can be really wavey and you don’t feel so good. You can’t eat anything but you want to eat something. And the boat is rocking and you can get worried about it.
What do you worry about?
I worry the boat is too rocky and that I’m going to throw up. And that things are going to fall. And that’s it.
What about when it’s nice?
When it’s not as wavy. Hopefully there’s a little bit of wind. When the sun is not too hot and not too cold. I like being on the water and the sound of the waves. And I can’t wait to swim in the water.
It can be tiring and you don’t have much to do. You’re just sitting there waiting for your destination. Basically all you do all day is sleep, eat, poop, work, and just wait.
What are some of the good things you like to do?
I like to write blog posts and eat. I like to go up on the bow. Sometimes it’s like a rollercoaster in a good way, but sometimes in a bad way. Being on the water all day gets me used to it and I know that our boat is strong enough to be on the water and that most of the time it’s moving fast.
I like cooking on the boat. Mom is starting to teach me how to cook.
We saw dolphins for the first time which was really cool, especially because they were out in the wild. I’m looking forward to seeing some more sea creatures like star fish and sea horses and octopuses and big fish and big crabs and squid and lobsters. And more dolphins. (Grace: What about turtles Aden?) And turtles.
Do you like going to being at a place?
I like being at a place. I like exploring them and enjoying it. It’s usually calm at an anchorage or dock. And you can sleep soundly.
What do you like about sailing?
You know you’re on your house on the water and if you think about it, it feels crazy. And you know you’re safe because you’re in your house.
