Oh Canada! Day 1
Well we are back home in Canada for a whirl-wind visit meets work trip and thought we’d do a series of brief posts each day we are here…so here we go!
Day 1
Ok first off…
We got in last night (let’s call that Day 0) after the fastest Milton <-> Deale transit yet on record at 9 hours almost on the dot. Pretty good for 3 stops and no/minimal speeding…it’s best not to dwell on how much ground you can cover with basically any other mode of transportation besides a sailboat ;P
So Day 1 has us slipping right back into suburban living as we stay at our dear friends’ house (made even more dear by the fact that they are also a busy family of 5 and made room for us to be so comfortable here for 2 days!). They are storing / using some of our furniture so it’s fun to see some of our ‘home’ in their home…and we have some lovely bubbly to enjoy tonight in their amazing and seriously effing HUGE newly renovated kitchen (thanks Frontiers, you guys are amazing) …omg I’m not even kidding it’s probably 20x the size of Matriarch’s galley (I measured with my eyeballs).
We started the day with breakfast at Louie’s Diner where we ate an obscene amount of pancakes, eggs and peameal bacon (aka back bacon, aka CANADIAN bacon)…it’s our favourite breakfast spot in town and we LOVE the familiar staff that we’ve gotten to know over the years. As I’ve written about in the past - pancakes are important to me and these are literally the best I’ve ever every had in a restaurant. if you are ever in Milton and are as obsessed with pancakes as I am it’s a must-stop.
So fuelled up on fat, salt and sugar we have a few objectives for today:
Coordinate drop-off and pick-ups for play dates so the kids could each see one special friend before we leave Milton for Phase 2 of this Oh Canada! adventure
Check-in on the house and connect with the (amazing) tenants, Courtney and Francene, to pick up some mail and drop off the garage door opener we forgot to leave. Courtney used to DJ and Jamaica and he made us a sweet mix so we can pretend to be cool ;)
Catch up on the blog posts (ahem…Greg!)
Chill out for a second, not feel like we should be fixing something or checking something and enjoy enough space to swing a cat
Grace is having a sleep over with her VERY best friend Talia (first sleep over ever). She was so excited that as we were apparently driving too slow she told Greg and I that “you can just drop me off here and I will walk the rest of the way…don’t worry if a bad person tries to steal me I will just bite them”. No Grace…I promise driving is faster.
Liam is spending all day with his buddy Alvin after a fix with Will last night and this morning (his bestie is the son of our besties)…I suspect Liam and Alvin will play Clash of Clans together all day in perfect peaceful bliss.
Aden is desperately waiting for her meet-up with her friend Portia who has a full schedule of gymnastic training and homeschool. Her family so generously invited Aden to join in on the birthday celebrations of one of their 4 kids just so the girls could connect :)
Meanwhile, Greg and I are SWIMMING IN SPACE. It’s a nice change to not have to duck, twist, bend and kneel to just move through your hallways and living spaces LOL. Also it’s much easier to get your 10K steps when you have to walk 40 steps to get to the bathroom instead of 4! I’m also marvelling at how much easier it seems to make a cup of tea on land than on the boat…I don’t understand why it feels this way since my kettle is always out, the stove lights quickly, and I have a sh*t ton of tea but it just feels like a bit more of a chore. I usually drink several cups of green tea a day and on the boat I’ve not been doing this and miss it. Got one at my elbow right now though!
Tomorrow brings medical appointments, a flight to Ottawa for me and Greg moving the kids over to Tillsonburg for the rest of the week so today we are going to soak in the rest of our few precious hours with friends, familiarity and lots and lots of love!
Thank you Mike, Mandy, Emma, Ethan and Will….Bryan-Harris Crew Mash-Ups never disappoint! Even if we have to listen to Mike drone on about CrossFit…
Lots of love from the North
